Taken on ANZAC day. Had to do a bit of noise reduction on it, taken at ISO 800

Very skillful pilots

Great shot, the square crop really suits it. Wouldn't guess that it's been hit with the NR stick.

It's a bit surprising that you needed ISO 800 shooting straight into the sky isn't it? What sort of shutter speed were you using?
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!

Ahh yes - but what happens when you forget to take it off 800 when you've been shooting inside :-)

:) We've all done that once or twice (or thrice or whatever 4ice is). When macka and I went up to the Blue Mountains recently, I shot a lovely pano @ ISO800 on a bright sunny day- luckily I realised and had another go a bit later

Just another reason to save for a D200 with ISO in the viewfinder :P

Barrie, this is a very good image. I like the colours and the vapour trails. Only little niggle is you have the planes flying out of the fram and I think the image would look stronger with them flying into the fram. Do you have any more sky for a recrop and or, try it flipped around the horizontal axis

Vibrant contrasty colours and the compositional crop is excellent. The planes whilst flying out of frame match the corner of the frame creating a visually balanced and interesting image.

Barrie,

Something is bugging me about this shot. I do not remember that shade of red on the Roulettes (it has been a couple of years), the whites do not appear white and there is a lack of detail (that could be the ISO 800). Is there a bit of CA happening in the original?

I really do like the composition, even if it is leading out of the frame... I can not really see any other way of doing it. The smoke is leading into the frame (Roulettes without smoke is boring :) ) and the formation is nicely aligned into the corner of the image.

Cheers

Heres the site for the Roulettes:
http://www.defence.gov.au/Raaf/roulettes/about.htm

they seem to be red :)

The bottoms of the planes are in shadow - so they would be a darker red (bit splotchy due to ISO)

I run my WB a bit warmer than usual - maybe thats why the whites are not "white"

Fair enough. I have to admit that I was not too sure. It is funny... I always remember them as being a shade of red closer to that of the old ARDU Mirages... anyone remember those? 8) Amazing the things that stick in my head :?

I figured that WB was a little warm - and maybe by choice. I also use WB that is a little warmer than spot on.

Cheers :)
