3 TakesWhen I'm at Darling Harbour there are two objects I've never been able to get the right angle on. One is the long wall with all the names on it, the other is the lighthouse. Well bugger me, but I got three of the lighthouse this weekend - now I can't decide which works best. What's a boy to do! Click a pic for a larger version.

#1 for simple symmetry and no background distractions. It creates a clean image and pleasant tonality.
The composition, simplicity and lighting for the first pic is the best. Was that with the 12-24?

Peter, it's a toss up between #1 and #2. #3 doesn't do it for me, the bold colours look a bit too contrived. I think I prefer #1 best of all. It says reaching to the sky and the back lighting works really well too.

#1 does it for me. Stunning.
Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes. http://www.dionm.net/
All are good, but I prefer #1 also.
That perspective really gives the viewers the sense that they are looking at a bloody tall structure! The relief of the windows against the stark white bricks is cool too. TFF (Trevor)

Peter all 3 are very good. It would depend where you were going to hang it / them. I could find a place for #1 & #3

I think #1 takes the prize here for it's simplicity, high key effect, soft lighting under the walkway of the tower, exposure spot on, wonderful symmetry and I like the positioning of the 3 windows, they add a bit of interest to the otherwise featureless column.
#2 More natural but still vivid colours buyt seems unfinished. Either include more of the Lighthouse tower or, again using your wonderful sense of symmetry, crop it close underneath the rounded walkway so that only a small yet defined section of column remains but focus maintained on the head of the structure. Don't know if that makes sense Peter. ![]() ![]() #3 Lovely composition and symmetry but clours a tad oversaturated, as much as I like a bit of vibrance in colours ![]() cheers marco
Thank you one and all for your comments. It would seem the consensus is #1 and I have to say that while I originally leant towards #3 I've decided #1 is the one for my annual photo collection.
