After finding out about this festival here on DSLR users I took my family up for the weekend
it was a great weekend and all the family enjoyed it with the Battles, Jousting and blacksmithing etc there was lots to see and do
I can highly recommend it to everyone

here are a few images
the first (2 versions) is of the battle of Lithgow re-enactment

and this last one is from the blacksmithing competition where the blacksmiths were all given 1m of 16mm square bar and had 1.5 hours to make a snake
(the shot was taken using spot metering on the red hot part of the steel to keep the background dark)

I didn't have much luck photographing the jousting as they kept us too far away for my 75mm lens

even though the 2nd picture has had a fiter applied to make it look older, it still looks .. new and modern. not sure what it is, maybe not such sharp edges (before the border)?
i like the 2nd one, except the hammer (?) could have been sharper.. nice work though. i like them :)

love how you can see the shrapnel being fired out of the canon (:P)

May try adding some grain to the second one to give it a more authentic feel.

The metering of the blacksmith pic is spot on.

Keith - that first shot is superb in colour. You not only have the smoke, but the fire coming out of the barrell. The monochrome shot loses that and the image is the poorer for it.
