Not very happy Mr.

I sold my af50 - 1.4 and will sell my AFS 17-35 -2.8 as I am revising my overall kit.
My new af85 - 1.4 lens arrived late today along with the gary fong lightsphere 11.
As you would guess I was very keen to use them, and, in the late afternoon failing light , a mother walked by and permitted a shot of the daughter who was not very happy and suffering flu symptoms.
This is my first attempt and any suggestions, apart from choosing a happier subject, would be welcomed

Bob,
although my laptop is prone to exaggerating these things the hotspots on her face look blown to me.
Otherwise, nice shot and very cute.

Hmm, the only hot spot I see is on the tip of the nose and would be easily dealt with in
PS. I think this is just cut off too much...not sure whether you have cropped it or not, but you've given her too much of a "top and sides" hair and skull cut for me.

Thanks for the comments guys.
When photoshop CS2 converts from Raw it highlights any blown areas in red and the very dark areas in blue.
There were niether during the conversion of this shot - wonder why?
I did crop to get rid of some annoying background stuff.
Thanks for the tips - much appreciated.

To me a "hot spot" is a spot which is lighter than expected. It doesn't necessarily mean that it has gone 255,255,255. Macka may mean something else. To me the little spot on the end of the nose is just a bit shiny. Its just a quibble.
Anyway..great lens. I'm hanging out for one.

Sorry to have created such confusion, upon inspection on the other monitor it is not blown, there are merely a few light spots on her face, but it doesn't detract from the image.
I shouldn't trust my laptop on these things

I'd agree with Shakey... a touch up of the highlight on the tip of the nose would probably be an improvement... also think the crop is a little too tight but that is not always easy to control. An alternative to cropping might be to PP the background to diminish any distraction... might be worth a go, but it really depends on how much time you want to invest in the image.
I bet macka will now cross check any image on at least 3 monitor before commenting next time...

For a first shot with a new lens and the much-vaunted beer cup, I think it's a great effort Bob.
Those eyes are just captivating and you've really shown them up well. Be great if you could repeat the shooting exercise when our poor little Miss is feeling a lot better.

Thanks all for the comments
Redline -I think the 17 - 35 is around $1400 in good con.
Steve - I haven't had much of a chance to use the lightsphere yet but I really like the way it sits when camera is in portrait orientation. Avoids the need for a bracket to some extent.
