Hi All
I took this photo while out on a walk along the river here in Perth, there were two of these birds hovering around looking for food, they landed on a light pole and I was able to get this shot.

Great eye contact with the bird, it looks prety good.

My girlfriend says it looks cute. Big black eyes on a white body - just like a baby harp seal.

It is a black shouldered kite - they are found Australia wide (except for Tassie). The lack of feathers on the legs are what distinguishes this group from true eagles.

sure looks like a black shouldered kite.

the adults have deep red eyes. hard to tell from this shot though.

I love the way these guys hover and then swoop down when they see prey.
