A flower from the back yard, taken some months ago. C+C please

Not sure what it is (or isn't) about this one that doesn't really strike me as a stunning image. I think it could be a bit lighter and with a little more contrast so that the yellow really stands out with the sky background. Perhaps all it needs is just curve adjustment.

Sure it's a 'nice' shot but there's only a small portion of it that is REALLY sharp - what F were u using on this? Hope you're ok with my upfront and honest critique...

Thanks for the honest comments Geoff. I sort of like the shot but was dissapointed with it. I took it not long after I bought the camera last year and was expecting better results. Iam still trying to get used to it.

Don't get me wrong mate - it's not a bad shot, but could be better.
Under the circumstances and now looking at your EXIF data, I would think that a bigger f-stop even F4 and a shutter speed of about 1/250th may have enhanced this shot - keep at it and learn all u can with the 70-300G lens, it's under rated and can pull some very nice images!

Have seen some good images from others using the lens. I am basically trying to get back in to the swing of photography after losing a bit of interest some time ago. I got out the old film slr 7 or 8 months ago and it died on me so I bought the D70s. Only now am i just getting time to try and learn how to use it before i go os to the Shetland Isles in June.

Dug told me about the forum and the images and interesting banter between members has really motivated me to pull my finger out.

I'm not much chop at C&C but I'll have a go

Firstly, a fantastic combination of complimentary color, blue and gold, yes!

For a PP play, maybe clone out the odd dark "thing" creeping in on the edges of the image, also I'd be tempted to have used a smaller aperture as there seems to be a loss of sharpness on the edges of the flower, with an exposure of 1/500th you've got room to manouver with your shutter speed (unless it's just me, which it usually is ), maybe not such a tight crop (there's bits clipped at the image edge), and maybe some curves/levels to make the contrast POP!

Geoff, are you sure you didn't mean to say f8?

Thanks guys fot the comments. Have another bush in flower (red) at the moment so will try to get a shot when the weather clears.
