Tried doing a self portrait, wanted a shallow depth of field to hide the uglyness

had the 50mm set to around f2 and camera on tripod, just me sitting on a dark couch with a lamp on nearby for illumination.. same image.. 2 different settings

almost split lighting....
even tho there are small catch lights in your eyes, i find it too dark, even if that was the mood you were aimin' for. Just a tad more light in your eyes would work better..just my two cents tho

Nice portrait, Zeeke, but I just find the dark side of the face a tad too dark, a bit more lighting would bring out some face features.

I'm certainly no protrait critic but I find that I'm wanting to see the left eye lit up.
Otherwise I'm a fan

G'day,
Prefer the B&W possbly because the shadows are darker in the colored version... Would also like to have seen maybe the head turned a little to the subject's right and get a smidge more light in his right eye...
I really like the framing and the creativity...

PS I like the darker shot it is much stronger and the single speck of light in the eye is great.
Great work!

If you can reflect just a little light on the left side of your face, I think it would be much stronger.
