Last batch from the Zoo for now (and I've entirely skipped the snow leopards!).

I love the red-bellied black snakes. 2 of the 3 times I've been there, they've been quite active near the end of the day. Beautiful creatures to boot. Inquisitive yet a little menacing.


Crocodiles don't move very much, and neither did this one. Took two versions, one front-on, one slightly to the side. Not sure which one works better?


The sun was not in the best position, even if the croc pretty much was. This croc was pure menace. I got the feeling that even with the bars, and even with the mini moat, and even with me being behind a small concrete wall and it being maybe ten metres away it was still contemplating how best to make a meal of me should circumstances somehow change in its favour. Then again, I'm no animal psychologist. Perhaps this the creature's 'highly contented, and basking' expression.

Love the snake, you should see these fellas when they slide past you on the garden path at home, they look very menacing. Agree about the light on the croc, the first one looks the best but you can't see his left eye which spoils the 'sizing up lunch' effect.

Black snakes are probably the best of a bad bunch of poisonous snakes,
I have been attacked by most breeds of them ( during my Army days)
and i found the black to be the least agressive

A friend of mine concurres he has one as a pet and reckons from his experience out of most Aussie snakes the black is the only one with the personality that can be tamed (his words !!) he handles it with no fear

There are pretty snake as i seen the tale of one the other week while trying to chase some birds, but i will stick to my moto.
The only good 1 id a dead 1.
