I was digging around my photo folders and found this shot which I had forgotten I'd taken. I like it, but would appreciate C&C on it.

I really like the colours and the "texture" of the grass. The boy looks sad and it makes me wonder if he is or if he is just looking at the grass.

Great feeling of sadness, abandonment and being a lone in this shot. It's amazing how body language can be so expressive.

Would be a great illustration for an article on depression. Track down that market! :

nice art direction - art direction is almost everything in this sort of image

only comment is the pose it looks droopy
woudl of been more surreal if the boy was standing perfectly straight in the middle of a spanning field, that woudl of made a stark contrast of an odd subject in the field, this shot looks a little rushed

but the art direction is spot on - i can see what you were trying to do

To make it even more spooky boy facing camera perfectly straight, hands together now that would be great!

The browns & greys make great colours for a depression shot. Maybe he lost his ball in the long grass? A vignette would add to the effect too

I don't know Matt - this shot works for me right up to the main subject. The clothes he's wearing seem incongruous with the rural image. Looks like a kid who got lost during cross-country training at a city school.

Sorry, but everything else in the image says rustic and aged, yet the clean white socks scream modernity.

I think this is the first one of yours I've had any negative feelings about!

Thank you everyone.

I must admit that I didn;t even see that incongruity between the rustic and the modern - but now that you've mentioned it, it's all I can see.

I like the shot - the feeling of emptiness and depression and might revist this at some point.

Thank you all for your honest feedback.

Dramatic.....the clouds add sense of mood along with the boy...leading lines direct throughout the image....and the detail in the grass is great

A second viewing and the image looks even stranger. The boy looks like a man. The man is deeply depressed about something. The landscape is stark and and harsh. It's a song of life. A shit life.
