Noisy Pitta with chicks

This is a shot of a Noisy Pitta feeding two chicks, taken a while ago. I set up a camouflaged hide in the rainforest, three to four metres from the nest and sat in the hide each day for two weeks in order to capture some shots.

This shot has special meaning for me as it was the first time one of my shots was accepted for publishing (Australian Geographic - Natural Exposure section).

Only thing I would change today would be to compose the bird a tad higher in frame and get feet in shot - unfortunately the bird was there for a spilt second and I didn't have time to recompose.

Three flash units were used to ensure even lighting.

Cheers

Michael

Thanks Steve,

Why don't you try and submit something to Australian Geographic yourself? I've seen some of your bird shots and they are definitely worth considering.

Cheers

Congratulations Michael
One day there will be no birds left and people will only know what they have lost by looking at photographs like yours. We can only imagine the value of this imagery in 200 years time.

G'day,

Well done on getting published in Nat Geo, excellent recognition, and I admire your tenacity and dedication to your work... Judging by the end result it was well worth it, well done.

Thanks for the positive comments so far.

Yes, I had to sit in a camouflaged hide for 2 weeks but it was so peaceful and serene. Seeing the Pittas go about their parental duties at such close range was a real thrill and capturing some shots a bonus.

Being published in Australian Geographic for my first publishing was a real buzz and I have since written some short articles for them as well, with more to come.

Cheers

Michael
