Half of our erstwhile admin duo captured during the Hunter Vintage weekend earlier this month. There's something about this image that appeals to me compositionally. Am I mad or do you see it too (and please no snide remarks about my taste in subjects

)

Needs more USM Peter, there's no halo! Right Leigh?

Peter, I like it too. The composition and pose, combined with the expression give the impression of a soldier making a big decision in the heat of battle. I doubt it was something so serious Leigh was pondering on.

it's a dramatic portrait in the likes of the best communist posters.
it's inspirational
although the tone is quite gloomy

Wendel hit it on the head. Statuesque. A good image. Very Eastern bloc type image. The peoples hero.

I agree that with the 'Statuesque' comment, sums it up nicely.
He's almost got a Mona Lisa smile happening too.

Mark,
You brought up something new for our admin!
Are you seeing he's one of the "cold blood" comrades of CCCP?

Guys
What have you done to my finely wrought image (and you in particular Rel - a naked Leigh I did NOT need)
Well done all of you. My pick is the wings, but the David comes bloody close.
Before you all cower in fear my sense of humour is well and trully intact. This thread will not be locked (yet, mwhahahah)

I've never seen it before, but from the slightly butchered version here I can see why. It has the most amazing tonings and a lovely subtlety to it.

Jackson Pollock is inspired, but Hans Holbein I don't get.

Hans Holbein's "The Ambassadors"
The original:
My one:
Holbein painted the skull so that you physically had to put your head down on the canvas and look up at it to see the skull within the right dimensions.
