Sugar Loaf Point Lighthouse (D/U Warning)

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Some photos from a recent trip to Seal Rocks. Unfortunately, the only time we got to visit the lighthouse was early afternoon and the lighting is far from ideal. Definitely need to go back another time around either dawn or dusk - without the kids whinging and saying "hurry up dad".... The place is just spectacular. C&C welcome

Andrew,

Some great shots here I particually like the last one and #4. I think the FishEye lens could deliever some great shots at this location.

absolutly beautiful number one is my favorite seeing the waves on the rocks! should be on a poster with some motivating saying i th ink....

1st one has an intimate feel to it
because of the framing to include the whitehouse arch and the nice seascape. A litlte more of a crop woudl make this image tighter and much more intimate, you shoudl revisit this shot at sunset and you will get one magnificent shot you have found a real nice sweet spot to re-visit in my opinion

I also like the minimalist composition of the last the leadign lines all line up in the corners of the frame so well doen compositionally
again try re-visiting the thing when there is better light if you want to maximize these shots

Very good series - the last one especially caught my attention. IMO wonderful composition in that shot.

Craig, a fisheye lens would be awesome here. As you can see from some of the photos, space is pretty tight around the lighthouse. Unfortunately, a fisheye lens is not in my arsenal and is a) way beyond my budget and b) lower on the lust list than a tripod and an 80-200. Maybe in a few years... :)

William, thanks for the kind words, but IMO this photo's nowhere near good enough for any poster.

Wendell, you're dead right, it's an awesome spot and I'll definitely being going back to take some shots with some more subtle lighting. Hopefully by the time I head back I'll be the proud owner of a quality tripod to help me realise that vision.
