Fireworks were very good as always. Although they are a pain to photograph. :?

Very nice.

Looks like you've got the fireworks technique down pat

Do you use a black cloth or a card to block off the light between explosions?

Thanks.
I'm not sure I've got the technique yet. A lot of it is luck. I'm getting about 10% nice shots.

No use of cloth or card. I just use bulb mode and try and start and stop at the right times. It's surprising how short you have to leave the shutter open. I must have been doing only 6-10 seconds. Becase the fireworks keep bursting in the same places, it is easy to just end up with blown hilight blobs.
I kept moving between f/14-f/18, mostly on f/16. It's surprising how different fireworks output different amounts of light.

It does make it easier. I had to keep to a wide angle to get everything in. :D

Hi wendellt,

Thank you. I'm glad you think so. Let's just say that shooting in raw helps. :D
(I keep finding myself backing off the exposure a bit. It's rare that I ever leave it set to zero. Do other people find this too?)

I was lucky there. I just met up with friends who had a reasonable spot. If the catering vans turned their lights off, it would have been perfect. :?

As far as firework images go, these are top quality. I wish mine come out that good.

Thanks. It makes it hard to practice when they only occur at Australia Day and New Year's Eve. You get about 15 minutes a year to take these shots.

Thank you all. I'm very happy with how they came out.

(Maybe this is an idea for an Adelaide meet next year...)
