The first image: I can't relate to it; I don't get it with that one.
The second image: I believe it is potentially a great journalists't fotography.

I really like the first, two opposing subjects, the framing, lines and subtlety of color caught my interest, might be worth a try with a really gritty, noisey grain maybe? Just thinking... Oooh, maybe subtley toned?
The second doesn't grab me the same way, not sure why, maybe there's too much happenning in the foreground and so much of it is detailed...
