Ok Guys and Gals,
I need some advise with these 2 pictures. They are actually 2 different pictures, just one had a light source shining on it and the other didn't and the focal area is different on each.
Comments please.
D70 + 24-120 VR iso 320, f5.6 1/3sec, manual focus, cropped
D70 + 24-120VR iso 320, f5.6 1/1.6sec, manual focus, cropped
Regards,
Bill

First one is the best since there are no highlight issues. The metal bits shine more and the wood on the guitar is more pleasing in my opinion.

Love the shots, esp the second one.
I find the shadows in the second shot more interesting and prefer that the writing on the headstock is clearer. Since there is only a very limited amount of the guitar as the subject, I would prefer the upper strings were also in focus or more cropped out.

I prefer the first one, for the reason that the lighting is more even and it lacks hot spots.
depending on what effect you are going for, more depth of field would be better.
perhaps using the widest angle lens you have and focusing on the nearer strings and having the machine heads also focussed.
With one light, you can even use a piece of white paper as a reflector

Prefer the first one, but the DOF is a bit shallow I think. I guess it depends on which part of the head you wanted to be in focus.

the second one is more moody but the silver things on the left look better in the first shot
excellent DOF i would of though these were shot on the 50mm f1.4 at F2
but you used the 24-120 which a lot of people think is soft, excellent work

I have to agree with everyone here.
The first one is great, but the second has mood. It's a shame about the machine heads in that one. Nice subject and results.
