Hi Muzza - never smile at a crocodile.
I have to be honest with you - whilst this shot is quite sharp, I think you have cropped it waaaaaay too much. There's not enough extensive definition to it justice. I assume this is a PP'd crop or did you zoom this much to being with? Hope you are ok with my brutually honest opinion.

I will have to be honest and agree with Geoff. While it's nice and sharp I'm left thinking "where's the rest of him" (or her).
I think this sized crop would of worked if it was only the eyes above water.. but in this case, its just not enough information to satisfy the viewer.
However, while thinking about just the eyes out of the water, it made me think of the "Flood" plugin (if your not familar do a search on the forum).
With this you could potentially submerge your croc for a really different sort of shot!

Wasn't quite sure which way the croc was looking at first

Nice and sharp and ditto with the rest of the bandwagon

I actully dont mind it cropped, in fact see how it looks with a bit more of the top cropped off, to focus more ont he sharp eye.

Woah.... Terrific detail in the eye and it's sharp as in that area and behind... Wondering about the aperture used and how close you were (couldn't get EXIF) because the DOF looks really shallow...
Maybe this crop would work if you cropped some off the top to exclude the dark band at the top???
Amazing creatures though huh... Like one of the few creatures left with outwardly pre-historic appearance...

when I first saw it, I thought it that the DOF is too shallow.
for it to be this close cropped, the whole part of the croc that we can see has to be sharp.
As it is the eye is razor sharp but the snout etc is less so.

I'd say, it's either cropped too much or not enough!
Cheers

I agree with Matt and Mudder , crop a bit more off the top to focus attention on the eye
