Inspired by the great astro-photography on the forum and being in a relatively dark place away from the city I decided to turn my camera to the heavens and see what I could do. Please feedback is very very welcome as I really was taking stabs in the dark if you'll excuse the pun.

Nice shot of Orion there Craig... I was trying to do exactly that recently...
A good first effort...

Hi Craig,
good first effort, looks good. What did you use lens wise and settings?
I've got it on my list of things to try out as well after seeing the results of Big V
The second one would be the one I prefer, easily make out Orion. Probably needs to be even darker skies to make out more of it.
Cheers,
André

Alpha nice start...now to try and gather enough light to bring out the nebulosity in this region. You can try using higher ISO, longer exposures, or take a series of exposures and stack them together...

Thanks for the comments, I thought I better post some Exif Data to help
#1 18mm, f3.5, 20 sec, ISO 1600
#2 40mm, f4.5, 20 sec, ISO 1600 (not sure about the ISO, the exif seems a bit odd).
