After 56 years in her own house, the last 30 on her own, and a broken hip, my 94yo g/mother has decided to move into supported care.

I took the opportunity before we cleared things out to take some photos that I think say more about her than any portrait ever could.

The photos of the garage show an interior than hasnt really changed since my grandfather built it in 1950. (He died 30yrs ago)

The images of the garden sheds reflect my g/mothers passion for her vegetable and flower gardens .

The home interiors are just as they looked during my childhood, and I'm 50 now.

I'm a little lost for words here, I can feel the emotion behind the shots, my grandmother just moved this month from her flat I've known as her home my whole life. Thanks for sharing your experience, via your lens and camera with us.

what a fantastic couple of shots showing true emotion. I particuarly love the first one. I can almost imagine your grandmother sitting there. The nice thing about the shot is that you are making a statement about anyone's grandparent (not necessarily you own) and the sense of loss as the world changes and time passes by.

A very personal and moving story and your love of your grandmother shows in the images. These will be something for you, your grandmother and your family to always treasure. I'm almost reluctant to comment on the photographic quality of these, but that first shot in particular is superb, as is the one of the shoes and the trowel on your flickr site. What a fantastic collection of pictures. You have managed to capture the moment beautifully and is now timeless. My hat off to you.

I was trying to figure out why this series meant so much to me, then I remembered I had to move my dad out of our family house following my mums recent passing. It's a sad, depressing feeling to leave so many memories.

Nice shots though, the feelings convey well through the images.

It's a great reminder of simpler times, when everthing didn't have a brand name splashed all over it.

In your 1st pic, I can imagine your Grandmother (and mine) sitting in that chair, completely content and wondering why us young "whipper-snappers" feel the need to have all that "modern gadgetry" surrounding us....

This is exactly what photography is for.....well done !

These are superb shots. The colour, composition are just spot on.
My Gran died last year and as I was in Aus I never got to see her, but I would have loved to get some pictues of her house - so many memories.

It looks a lot like the interior of my 92 year-old neighbour... very spartan... She's lived there for 40 odd years too and her house was the only house in the street when she moved in...

It's amazing....but there must be many folk living in the same conditions and their homes and garages are like precious time capsules. It's great that you captured these and you did it very well. Could be a book theme here.

Amazing, your 2nd shot looks like it could have been taken in 1956, not 2006. Great capture.

I wonder how many of us live this kind of simple and uncluttered life
these pics are indeed a time capsule and take one back to a time when things were less complicated and much much slower

On your flickr site, E-Grans-55-BW (the one with the lock) keeps drawing me back. I like how the vignetting actually draws my attention to the centre of the image. Well done again!

Yep there was PP of course.
Mostly levels/curves adjustment layer, Nik Sharpener Pro, vignette layer.
Colour balance layer in a couple of them, and of course Channels Mixer for B/W and sepia ones.

Very moving imagery. My Nana passed away in September and her house will be bulldozed shortly as the developers move in. I am feeling a bit sad now that I didn't capture her 'spirit' before her home was cleaned out.
