Lovely stuff WW. For maybe 5 years my mum had a poster of Gang Gang's on the back of the dunny door. It was forever an amusement while... deep in thought. This shots are just as good as the one I spent so much time observing. Great work!

this is only the second time I have seen gang gangs posted here.
I was lucky enough to see a pair a few weeks ago

see this thread:

I didnt get may decent shots of the female and didnt bother posting any. she was deep in the bushes.

you have a female low down on the left in your first shot.
no where near as colourful as the male.

Fairly rare around sydney, although the tell me there are quite a few down the coast and around canberra.

Still good to see em though. Steve

was the male you saw this red?? or have you boosted the saturation.
If not there would appear to be a big difference in colour on the ones I saw out at north western sydney.

Definitely not your average cockatoo!

Love the second image Willy Wombat. Very nice to see them in the wild rather than caged. A quick question, it looked like a very nice sunny day, why do you use 400 ISO?

I've got a camera, it's black. I've got some lens, they are black as well.

Willy Wombat,

As someone very, very passionate about birds it is great to see pics of one of my favourite birds. I used to look after a pair of Gang Gangs when I was a birdkeeper at Sydney's Taronga Zoo many years ago and they can be seen and heard at my parent's place in the Blue Mountains.

Birds are my favourite photographic subjects as well and I'm still trying to get a decent shot of a fully-coloured male (I'm envious). Where were these shots taken? Was it a wildlife Park/Zoo or in the wild?

Definitely the second shot for me - very nice work indeed

Cheers

I was using the 70-300 G lens and have found that it produces a sharper image when shot at or over 1/400 shutter speed and f11.

I was shooting in shutter priority so I boosted the ISO to 400 to ensure i could keep up the F stop and I also got a decent DOF as a result.

Finch - Im very glad that someone else shares my love for the gang gang. Lucky you getting to look after them at the zoo. These shots were most definately in the wild (quite near my house actually). They are magical birds. Im very happy to hear you liked the shots.

Great shots Willy Wombat. I would love a shot of these. I was hoping to see some down at Wilson Prom but no luck. Such pretty birds.

I love Gang Gangs :!: I have only seen them in the Blue Mountains and then only in one location. Evidently from what I have been told only the juveniles make the distintive noise/racket :D
