My second group of pics from the Lunar New Year festivities at Phuoc Hue Temple on 28 Jan. This time they are shots of the Lion Dance and the associated ceremonies. To see a larger version click a pic. All shots were taken with the 24-120 VR (so much was happening there was no chance to change lenses).

Well stop posting here and get back to work.. I have 1000 odd shots from my Grandparents, but I really don't know where to start with them.. and I feel the quality of my photography slipped while I was away.. I got a little too relaxed and feel into Happy Snap mode too easily.

(Did you get some fireworks shots?).

I didn't get any really good fireworks shots since I was up on the stage taking pics there (and hand held), but I will be posting the best of the bad. Matt K was down in the thick of it so I expect there will be some interesting pics from him.

You guys can be brutal sometimes. 70 views and 1 comment (thanks Craig). And here I was thinking these were better than the shots in my people thread. I'l just go sob in the corner

Peter all are great general sceens of a great event......... but for me there is not any that jump as an image to behold greatness........ sorry.....

Well thanks, I try my best to provide comments to most the shots posted, I would say that your people shots were overall more engaging then this series.

#1 Provides a good starting point, all the crowds gathered and waiting in anticipation.

#2 Love the bright bold colours and in a sense a "loud" photo, when I see it I instantly can hear the drums and music to which the lion dance is being done.

#3 as I said before, love this shot, reminds me of rose petals

#4 and #5 This shots aren't as dramatic or affective as I think they could of been, I'm not sure what exactly is hampering these shots being better, but they don't work for me

#5 As I said earlier I'm a fan of this shot, but it seems to me while the lion is sharp the ..for won't of a better word guy on the right is a little soft.
(no offence meant)

#6 While not a fantastic shot per sa this shot says volumes about the guys behind the lion dance, so bold and bashful when peforming, but shy and quiet behind the scenes

Craig - thanks for the detail. The man in the second last pic is called the "Most Venerable". He is the most senior buddhist leader in Australia and he founded the temple (which is also named after him). The temple's website is here

Poon, John & Christian. Thanks for your comments. It was a fantastic evening and quite tiring as I did a lot of running around over the 9 hours I was at the temple.
