When I was in amsterdam the bikes really are really stood out. Its amazing what expensive petrol, public transport and well designated bike lanes do to encourage people onto bikes.

The lines of bikes are really good shots which use repetition well. The black bike between the red capture is great.

Thanks for comments guys :)

BBJ, try to imagine four lines of bikes placed one by one for 200 m. Then multiply it by 3 levels. That is a bicycle parking. You put your bike there, forget the place and go to shop to buy new one :D

What a good series. #4 is the stand out for me but a tough choice with so many good ones to choose from. Having been to Amsterdam before i have good memories of the bikes there. Very fitting.

Two memories stand out for me.

A Dutch bloke in a bar telling me that the bike itself in Amsterdam is cheap, its the bike lock that is the expensive thing.

The second, cruising on a long boat on a canal and looking to the right to see a muddy island near the bank with a very rusty bike wheel sticking out of it. Wish i had a photo. The adage about canals in Amsterdam stood true - they are 5 meters deep, with 2 meters of mud, 2 meters of bikes and 1 meter of water on top. :D

Well done!

I particularly like 3, 4 and 6, but as a series they're all great.

To fit in, that "one more photo" also needs black bars!

That is a lot of pedal power, thanks for sharing these. I actually didn't realise how popular bikes were over there... I've only heard about the seedier side.... 8)

i like 3,4 and 6 the most, excellent work
it's good you chose a theme and stuck with it, the whole series is very strong.
I did the same in Paris but it didn't quite work out.

Thanks Wendellt. Once I saw all those bike I knew it was going to be a serie. Somehow I got the feeeling from Tokyo where there is also a lot of bikes.

Catching the same way city or town is a different story. I think it really takes time and you need to know the place. I wasnt so confident shooting Amsterdam whereas in Poland I knew exactly what and how I want to shot and I have got at least two good series (still wait to be developled).

I recon that is half od succes - to know and feel a subject.

your right you often have to know your subject in order to photograph it properly, i knew paris and exactly what i wanted to get out of the city but still it's a monumental place and i just ended up shooting anything and everything forgeting what i had pre-planned.
