Well I have been getting some shots ready for my grandparents doing a little PP but mainly just cropping and making things look nice (don't think my grandparents will notice).

Anyways I thought I would share some with you.

Nice pics. You must be on holiday? I like the boat. it looks great in B&W.

I was on holiday last week, visiting my parents and 'home town' of Batemans Bay.

The black and white actually disguises how rundown that old boat is.

Nice to see you have got few days off line and enjoyed with your family. brought back some nice pics.

You should wait for the fishermen coming back from the deep sea with huge bluefin tuna.

We didn't get to go out to the shelf, but somewhere we have plenty of photo's (on film) of the tuna, kingfish and one sucidical marlin (it free jumped into Dad's boat).

This trip it was mainly salmon, blackfish, bream and scores of whiting.

#1 is good, but a tad dark and the foreground is distracting, but to be honest I wouldn't crop it either so I have no fix

#2 - good B & W treatment and a nice candid

#3 - very artistic - works a treat. Another DSLR self portrait

#4 - for me the treatment doesn't work - it needs to be more stark - blacker blacks and whiter whites

#5 - a great shot of Katie and well composed. It needs a touch more contrast to give it some punch, but is otherwise good.

#1 As Peter has stated dark plus there does not seem to be any point of interest to capture the viewers attention

#2 This is good but the noir approach would have been better served without the harsh shadows

#3 Noir in the right direction - the hand does nothing for the photo and the focus could have been more precise - but I do like

#4 Again a tad dark and would really like to see in colour for nuances of colour variation in the rust

#5 I feel that the direct eye contact with the camera makes this a typical snapshot. If Katie had been facing the camera with her head turned to left looking into the distance you would have had a better composed photograph.

Stubbsy and Chris - Thanks for the feedback.

#1 : Your right I got to work and it did look much darker then it previously was... I kind of just through this shot in as I liked the cloud and the different colours.. but I think my PP has made it worse not better

#2 : I was showing of my flash, by blinding my mate.. I actually liked the shadows in the much larger FF shot, but wanted a more personal feel so cropped this one close

#3 : Stubbsy glad you like it, when you run out of models, substitute self ..
Chris you dead on about the focus being off, this was shot in pitch black and as I was shooting and modelling I don't think I handled the conditions well (I was prefocusing on the chair, but I think the AF kept loosing me)

#4 Your both right not the right PP for the shot, it needed to be a more contrasty black and white or colour to show of the rust and decay... maybe even sepia but I'm not really a fan

#5 Roger on the more contrast, and yes Chris it was very much a Snapshot style photo (bad craig bad craig), its actually the first shot of Kate and the Bridge (yet she lived there for 16 years),.

(it's kind of fun to review my own shots with fresh eyes)

Thanks Chris, I'll let you know if I disagree with the critique (have no fear) but as always its up interpretation of the individual.

1 - Lake George? I tried some similar shots with my P&S last year & this is closer to the effect I was looking for, although the colour of the forground is a little off-putting

2 & 3 Nice portraits, esp Andy - I like the stark contrast (& he looks more introspective than usual)

4 - B&W shots of old boats are a fav of mine. I'd crop it more in portrait aspect & get the top of the mast

5 - The grandparents will love it...
