ha! When I read your post title I thought that you must have broken your camera.

I think I like the first pic the best, the blues in 1 and 2 are fantastic. If it was me, I would have cropped some of the top off the shot and centered the dragonfly more - but I'm fast learning that not everyone is a fan of the close crop! :D

Cheers, K!

Great shots Tim - I love the mozzie shot, and its' a male (just check out those beautiful feathered antennae)
I'm not that great on mozzies, but I know there is one species that is huge, and is actually predaceous on other mozzie larvae in aquatic systems. ... have to rack my brain to remember what it was....
If I remember, I'll post it
Well done :)

yeah, I remembered :)

Its Toxorhynchites speciosus - doesn't feed on humans :)
Diagnostic feature - bent and recurved proboscis :) (Wow, didn't think I'd remember my mosquito lectures that well !!!!)

A link to some info: http://www.arbovirus.health.nsw.gov.au/areas/arbovirus/mosquit/toxorhynchitesspeciosus.htm

Your photo is much much nicer than the one on the website :) !!!!

Ahh Cool, that looks like it, it was buzzing around in the garden.. big mozzie.. be nice if they killed all the marsh mozi's around my place.. im about 70 meters from the river.. via tree farm.. they have a chopper fly over every couple of months dropping pellets.. but they arent that effective

Definitely NOT a scotch grey - I'll stand by the Toxorhynchites id :)

Something that is worth looking at is the following photo series of this species emerging from the larval stage .. very cool !!

That is big! - I always thought that where I come from, the mossies were very big, because they used to sit on the trees and bark...

(feel free to groan any time now, my uncle used to say this all the time when I was a little kid, it took me about five years to get it   )

Cheers

Geo does not seem to be round any more. I wold just put a short note to Aus geo saying you photographed this sucker (mozzi shot) and it's species and description.

Give them a few words about your self IE; youthful, handsome and just starting in nature photography and when and where the shot was taken.

You never know if you don't ask :-)

I have had a few small shots printed in Aus geo over the years it is hit and miss depending on how much space they have to fill up.

cheers doug
