a few pics from the other day walking across the Harbour Bridge, all with D200 and 50/1.4

James these are great, totally unexpected and refreshingly unique approach.

I think #1 is my favourite, but I also really like the last one.


Are all of these taken with D200 ?

Seems you like this style James. 4 works but the shadow on the left leaves the subject with a lack of oomph I feel, 3 doesn't really do much for me (not enough in focus drawing my attention. 2 has a bit of the same problem, in that my eyes go to the OOF background first then to the sharp subject (which does work for me in this case). 1 is the standout for me though, the background is the least distracting of the lot, and the foreground subject is superb. Great shot!

I like them all, 1,2 & 4 I like the best because you can still tell what the subject is, without it being the subject of the photo.

Out of those three, if I had to choose a favourite it would be number 4. Where is t taken from, near the Quay or the opposite corner near the swimming pool? Either way, I like it.

nice and original use of bokeh on a sydney landmark. The lens really can throw the DOF well.

That first image is very strong. You've used the OOF to great effect and created a really appealing image. The eye is grabbed by the lovely sharp foreground then lingers to discover the nicely blurred OH in the background. While I understand the concepts of the rest of the series I have pretty much the same observations as Trent.

I like the last one best for emotional effect, it's a very cosey image and hints the overphotographed landmark intelligently

the others are very original i like the way you present the common and familiar with new interest.

James - an excellent perspective of what has generally become an over photographed icon. These remind me very much of Billington’s work - well done

I like the short depth of field look... it's usually only achieved by very expensive lenses. I just realised after looking at it the third time that it's the opera house in the background of the first image.

All very good shots but the above states the problem I find.
The opera house is barely recognizable and whilst looking at the apple, your mind is wandering off to keep checking out what the white thing is drawing attention away from where the mind really should be focussed.
I would have liked a little more DOF in shot #1 and probably a better subject as foreground interest. The image tends to suggest the opera house is a dirty place.

Nice series and I'd clearly take #4 as the pick of the bunch.
