This was not a pano but just a crop. I took this last night while Potatis was taking a pano in the complete opposite direction and he missed all these lovely colours!

Genista - a shot full of warmth and quality

Genista - this is a beautiful image. Was this taken yesterday (the 12th) evening? The sky was amazing!

Thanks very much. It was certainly taken last night, the sky was amazing. Doug did not get a photo of any of it , but keep an eye out for his new pano.

I like the shot Genista. Only one suggestion is to photoshop out the blue lights. But that is a personal preference of mine and you can ignore. Colours and exposure spot on. Well done.

Now that is a gorgeous image and a gorgeous sunset.

Great shot. Love the colours. My personal preference is to keep the blue lights in.

One thing I'd suggest though... As most of the skyline is in silhouette anyway, try playing with the Shadow/Highlight adjustment to bring out some more detail and colour in the sky... I had a quick play with your small image and it looked pretty good - give it a try...

Leek can you please give me an idea of what settings you were using because pping is still very new to me. Do you mean to lighten the sky? But I did not want to lose the silhouette effect.

Bob, Genista has a very good eye for photography, I think. Also, since only getting her camera just before Christmas, she has learned how to use it amazingly fast. Genista has been shooting in Manual mode almost the whole time she's had the camera. I enjoy looking at her photos, because she always gets different photos to me, even when we go to the same places. I often get a surprise at the things I miss when I see Genista's photos. I don't mean this photo she took. I knew that sky was there, but my tripod was set up for my pano.

That is a beautiful image, well seen and captured. And I like the blue lights left in.

Genista, this is great stuff. Each time I've been out with Doug and yourself I've really appreciated our different perspective and 'eye' for shots, even when we are all shooting in the same area and sometime even the same subject. You really have been coming ahead in leaps and bounds, and this is a great example of the rewards, for all your dedication (and patience with Doug)
Keep up the great work!

This is assuming that you have Adobe CS or CS2 available...
- Load your hi-res JPG into Photoshop
- Image --> Adjustments --> Shadow/Highlight
- Change the Shadow Amount to 0% (which basically puts it back where it was)
- Change the Highlight Amount to about 30%

This will darken the sky slightly and will bring out more detail and colour in the clouds without affecting the silhouette effect of the skyline... Play about with the Highlights slider until you're happy - if you overdo it the sky will start to pixellate...

Here's what happened when I did it with the image you posted...

Very nice Genista. I've tried taking this same scene but never captured it as well as you have. The colours are great. I would keep the blue lights too.
