These were shot at the same time as Mitedo's macro shots only these were with the 60mm macro (all bar the turtle which was shot with the 70-200VR).

Very nice! I love the second one the difference between the yellow and white.

Terrific shots John. My favourites are #2 and #5 for their simplicity and elegance. I would be tempted to clone out that rather distracting hair-like structure at the centre bottom of image 5 Gorgeous work

#2 and #5 are standout shots for your excellent use of DOF to enhance the image. #6 is also damn good, but there's really not a bad one in the lot.

The colours in those shots are amazing!!!


I've noticed that it seems the colours that come out of D2X shots (not just these.... but most) is much better than I'm getting out of my D70...

Is this because of:

A) The camera
B) The lenses used
C) The lighting used
D) The post processing
E) All of the above

Looking through the D2X gallery on Pbase is really quite nice... I'm just wondering if I can get the same colour results (... I think it may be the saturation.... images seem to 'pop' a lot more) with my D70 or weather it's much more to do with technique and PP'ing

That is a good point Nikonuser. I have just spent 30 minutes looking at these outstanding images (also Sliders and Mitedos) and wonder if that is partially the answer, but I don't think Slider has a D2x, in that case the 200 macro lens as MattK points out is just a standout item. Notwithstanding the great technique of the image takers I am also wondering if lab colour has been used in PP to help in colour saturation? When I look at these images I feel a long way behind, but will get there in the end

Nikonuser yes the camera was the D2X, the lens was the Nikkor 60mm micro, an SB800 flash was used with the diffuser (the light was very poor), the camera on a tripod (my hands are not very steady), and some PP was done. Manual focus.

The PP was limited to smart sharpen, a 125 lift in colour intensity, and then a little USM 50-0.2-0, at the end.

I do not think that you can add colour which is not there, and as far as colour goes I always thought that my D70 did a good job anyway.

The 200mm macro that Mitedo uses is certainly an outstanding lens, but is expensive and fairly hard to obtain. I think that the Sigma macro lens are also very good. Sliderr has one on order so I guess we will find out in a couple of weeks just how good.

I have the Sigma 180mm F3.5 macro.

I also think the colours are great on the D70 (and the 180mm) but they just never seem to be as 'intense' as I see in some other people's work.
