Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.
Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.
Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.
Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

just set up my dreamhost site.
ultimately I will get around to building a proper site. right now I have just installed mysql and gallery2 and have started moving some images over there. Right now gallery 2 is pretty much as installed mainly because I have no idea how to customise it. (Maybe someone will take pity on me and suggest a program or method I can use to customise it because I am not into programming and or web design.
I took this shot a month or so ago and didnt post it, mainly because it isnt a good shot. but i wanted to post something that hadnt been posted before to confirm I can link from my gallery2 image folder
main nits are busy background and tree in left foreground
I am testing the new hosting out and will be looking in on this post to make sure the images stays put. I have been scarred by the pixspot incident and this will hopefully be my solution.
If anyone happens to view the post and there is no image, perhaps they could post advising me.
anyways here is one ugly bird!!

thanks marvin,
I previewed it prior to posting and was happy the image would be there,
its just that the mysql database has been coming and going all arvo and I was interested if there were any other issues with the site at different times.

Hi Steve,
It must be very misunderstood
Also, welcome to dreamhost, I also use them for my images these days. Gallery 2 should serve you well. It is a very active project. Have a look at their website on:
http://gallery.menalto.com/
There is a number themes available to change the look of gallery.
Do not hesitate to post your questions on the Computer/IT section if you want a bit of help in customising the site. There is a number of us that use gallery2.
Cheers,
radar

thanks radar
I have been to that site and downloaded a few themes
the problem thus far seems to be that they speak as if the people actually understand it!!
The sad thing is that I am a electronic engineer and network engineer (for what that is worth these days) but I just dont know jack about programming or web development. looks like a foreign language to me!!
but I will ask the customize questions in the IT section if I cant figure it out!!

Good to see you've got started Steve.
One invaluable gallery tool is http://gallery.menalto.com/node/28154?f ... er_page=50
If you can find version 0.8.5 in that thread, it works great on the standard install. Otherwise you have to stuff around with newer builds. If you canf ind 0.8.5 I can host it for you.
This little utility gives you preformatted URLs for each picture. So I look at a full size picture on my site, and I have below it the full url for a linked thumbnail that I can copy and paste into here.
