The middle three are my picks. Top stuff. Composition wise the second one (first of the three) is my favourite - great framing.

I wish Canon made an affordable 200mm macro. Its a great working distance.

#2 #3 #5 are excellent, the others (to be very critical) are lacking in either sharpness, DOF or in compostion, for me personally they aren't upto your usual high standards.

Mark - all of these shots are excellent considering the difficulties of using a macro lens - not everyone can manage a macro as professionally as yourself :)

What a stunning and sensational array of images. You have certainly mastered that lens, there's no wonder you love it. You know how to use it and get great results. Brilliant.

I love number 2 - what a funky coloured insect! :D I also really really like number 3, very pretty.

Good stuff, Mark. :-)

That looks to be a very fine lens. Wish I could afford one. :?

Thanks for all the comments folks.

Alpha, I should have used a tripod for the bug (#4) but it was moving around a bit catching ants. I was hoping to get a shot of the catch but it was very quick. A bit more DOF and stability would have been good.

Kerry, I only have it on loan from Mitedo    But I think I will be saving hard  Having said that, I haven't tried the Sigma 150 or 180 Macros and they are meant to be very good but more affordable.

Kinetic, I am hoping someone will be able to identify it. Always nice to know what it is you have actually taken a photo of

Mudder, I will measure later on to confirm but around 60cm from the subject. Definately an advantage. :D

Outstanding stuff Mark. Just when I think I've decided on a macro something else pops up to throw out my savings plan.

I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest that it's some sort of Ichneumon wasp - they're parasitic wasps and often have redish bodies and blue wings. And that's about as far as my entomological skills go....
