Splash series

This is a series I took down the beach the other day. I could't get the shot I was originally after so I tried something else.

It was just after sunrise so the sun was low on the horizon. The waves crashing into the rocks sent white spray yp into the air. I hid down so I was shadowed behind the rock from the sun. When the water splashed up it was illuminated brightly from the sun. So I cranked the shutter speed to freeze the action.

Tooking them hame and had a play. Tried converting them to mono but didn't like the result so I thought I would just have a play with the layer blending (which I had never really examined previously). So I changed the blending of the channel mixer adj. layer to colour burn and dropped the opacity to around 60% and this is what I came up with......what do you think?

Quite interesting and would make good stock-photos. It's good to see you experimenting with a new technique. The black background really makes the waves punch :)

I agree with Steve, Katweazl, that it's an interesting set. While I really like what you've done, I would have preferred to see something static in the shot to give it perspective, i.e. the rocks or something else. Not being there and, subsequently, not seeing what you had to deal with, it's difficult to make any suggestions of value; you'll always be the best judge of how your image can be best portrayed.

Cool results, though. :D

Really like your experimentation here... would of suited the recent movement challenge very well. I must say that water in all it's forms is one of the most versatile and interesting substances to shoot, be it in clouds, lakes, streams, waves, splashes, single drops, snow, ice.. yeah you get my drift.. well done, and keep up the experimentation!

These are quite catching, particularly the first (for me anyway), I'm enjoying your experiments, thanks for sharing... It's always good to see new ideas, can be quite inspirational...

I think these are awesome. I love the frozen movement, the abstractness, the black background. It was what I was trying to achieve with my water shots.

Excellent images. As Steve says, get these to a stock library.
