Well I thought I'd co-operate and post some of my first SB-800 shots taken the same night it was bought, Potatis and I decided to play around on a swing, at 3am in the morning with two SB-800's and out imagination at our disposal. As none of the shots were breath-takingly good, I thought I collect them together to post more a serious of some of our fun. Here it is, I have a lot more respect for the some of the movement challenges shots now I've tried it myself...

hmmm well they came out craptastic...

I have to give Doug credit for a lot of the shots.. he took most the ones I'm in and I took the ones with him in it... (mostly).

Edit:Bloody typos

Craig, the 3rd one from the bottom! That's the one I've been waiting to see. It looked great on the LCD. Can you post it bigger? :)

Here it is doug!

I should also mention both flash units were off camera and we were manually using the test, and model light buttons to create the light affects... it also involved a lot of running round behind the camera ... and sometime in shot with the flash units to get a mix of lighting effects.

Edit : re-compressed the photo to save some bandwidth...

Why does that last photo look like you have a noose around you? Also going to a park at 3am to play with the sb800??? yeeesh, surprised you didn't get pulled up by cops :P

It's fun to experiment with the SB800. The last time I played around with it I blinded myself for a good few minutes...

The Noose was basically me being a dickhead... I had the Optec/USA pro loop strap, the detachable part around my neck like some "trendy" *cough cough* neck band.... didn't realise I still had it on, during the photos...

we didn't get stopped by the cops at all, we did see 2, and 1 security guard.. but the whole night shoot we were left pretty well alone.... apart from a couple trying to mate in public in our general vicinity..

while I wont be out in the park at 3 am trying out a new flash can you tell a newbie like me what this type of flash adds to your photography.
I want to do more macro/micro work and wonder if I need to get a better flash or better lens first (60 mm or 105) in order to get better pics ..apart from lots of practice with my extension tubes over the coming holiday break. all advice gratefully accpeted
cheers

I am always intrigued by the settings of the photos posted here - do you have the details of your swing shot?
