Wow I love it but I can't really say why??? It just grabs your attention and i think the B&W works well!!!

katweazl nicely done, this is a very effective black and white print, the contrast in texture and tone of the feather to the sand is intriging. Well done.

It looks like the feather is getting up to go for a walk!

I like this - depth of field works well with the shadow, and the contrast is just right. Love the detail in the grains. The slight vignetting (intentional or not) draws the attention appropriately. If this is as sharp closer up as it is at this size, I'd be printing it and putting it on show

This is a level of distilled and mature vision that we sadly see very rarely on the internet. I could envisage a large print of this gracing the walls of any gallery of contemporary photographic art - pretty much anywhere in the world. It stands boldly in the face of the 'record' shots that proliferate.

I love the shot immensely and envy you the opportunity you were presented with to identify the potential for the shopt and to execute it.

It has made my day.

This is a wonderful shot. I really like the contrast of the feather against the texture of the sand. Certianly would look nice blown up and hanging somewhere.

Excellent work! The deep shadow really adds to the capture, the grain in the sand and as noted the contrast. All work together and each compliment each other.

Thanks all on the great comments.....I have been a "lurker" on these forums for a long time quietly biding my time and honing my skills. This was my first image post so I wanted to make it a nice one.

The placement of the feather in the image space is precisely the only place that would work. Anywhere else and the image would lose it subtle balance. If the eye follows the leading line of the feather it will be escorted out of the image space at the optical center of the frames edge. There may be lessons to be learnt here. Nicely constructed!

Beautifully composed to make use of the textured space and the the contrast between subject and shadow. I agree with Matt perfectly spaced to grab the eye's attention. The OOF foreground and backgound leaving the band of focus echoing the shadows path also helps to hold the eye

This is very good, love the textures, the soft light, so simply yet so bloody effective... You have a good eye to not only see and capture this but frame the subject so well, nicely done... I can almost feel the texture...

Just to clarify:

IF I HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY IN A CRITIQUE THEN I SAY NOTHING.

If I choose to comment at all it is indication of the image's merits and worth. There have been instances where the image is presented for discussion on other criteria then aesthetic critique and in those instances I have never been one to shy away from expressing my view.

This image is exquisite - it is more than the sum of all its parts - and you should feel well pleased with yourself. There is much that others can learn from you through this offering.

I think my wife will be very satisfied with all the positive comments as it shows that all the time I have been spending honing the craft of photography hasn't been wasted.
