I took this pic the other night against the moon. What do people think? I don't mind it in a bizarre way, but others i speak to can't see the point to it.
Any comments/critiques/opinions are welcomed, and desired.
Merry Christmas,
Tristan

I like it, although the OOF moon almost looks more like a lamp.
I think it would be improved by having the thread more vertical: it just feels a bit too tilted.
Also I think the image would be stronger without the colour fringing around the silhouette (it's chromatic aberration that seems to radiate from the centre of the frame [although I know you cropped this]). Maybe it was an issue with the 100-300mm lens wide-open at 300mm? Was the lens focussed accurately on the spider?
Those are just little things, but I think they would help. Nice job regardless!

A very creative and strong image! Would make a great poster for a scary film...just add text. Well done and thanks for posting!

Yes, that distortion would be most likely be because of the end of the range focal length on that lense. I tried to bring it in to 250ish, but the positioning wouldn't let me.
I tried to remove a bit of the distortion in photoshop, this is the result: I think there is a slight difference.

Tristan, I reckon you've done well, it really has the nightmare horror movie feel to it, and you've done well to get the focus as sharp as you have.. that fact I can see the thread, and also the hairs on the spiders legs... all with the moon in the background. Do you know what kind of spider it was ? This image conjures up so many others in my head, firstly the book The Ironman, then secondly a cartoon mix between batman and spiderman.
