The first weekend with my Tokina 12 24 and I have learning all about wide angle Photography.It is a whole new ball game and alot harder than I thought. I have been after a super wide for as long as I have had a DSLR so it has been an exiting weekend.

I was in my local camera store on Sat morning in Hobart and saw the price of the 12 24 T-- $1099.Could never have afforded it . So, a genuine thanks to Birddog for making things possible. If you ever come to Tassie you must allow some time for some hospitality.

About 5 min drive from Hobart a small rivulet runs down the MT to the Cascade Brewery. Here are a few of the falls.

G'day mate,

That first one is absoltely magical mate, love it... Nice framing, interesting foreground with the rocks through the water (used a circ pol?) and nicely exposed.

Second one maybe take a step back and get in the fern at the top and the bottom of the trunk, the rock in the foreground maybe needs to be a smidge higher in the frame. Lovely cascading waterfall and again very nicely exposed.

The third one's a pearler! Great moment well captured...

Enjoyed 'em mate, great stuff, the WA takes some gettin' used to eh? You'll enjoy it...

Hi Owen,

I have a Tokina waiting under the tree for me. It sure has been tempting to just go and replace the box with an empty one :twisted:

I'll be giving it a tryout on the 25th

As for your photos, the second one does it for me, nice lines, smooth water. Wish we had nice waterfalls like that a bit closer.

The first one is also nice, but not quite there for my taste. Cropping out the bottom stream looks better imho, but that could be just me

Yes I did use a CP on all of these shots
I cannot get over how sharp this Tokina is.
It's a cracker
These posts (and my photography) do not do this lens justice

Nice shots Owen. But they are of my favourite waterfalls. :shock:

Ooh wait a sec, you told me about these waterfalls. S'pose that's OK then.
Like the shot of young Jim as well. What does he think of his dad crawling thru the grass. That Tokina certainly works well.

Congratulations on your new toy, and by the looks of it your already creating some great shots with it. I love the affects the WA has on children, it really does create some interesting perspectives and distortions.

love 2 and 3, they work the best for me.

Have been trying to convince the "Accountant" that the12-24 lens would be a better christmas present than air conditioning. Don't know where she gets her priorities from!!

Hi Owen,

I love your 3rd photo, the photo of the boy.
The perspective is so different and I like the composition.
I assume you used flash ? (onboard or SBxxx ?)
A 12-24mm lens is great to have.

If there are any keen Canon owners out there living in Melbourne who might be interested in this lens then you might like to know that Camera Exchange has a Tokina ATX 12-24mm f4 lens in the box going second hand at the moment ... I am not sure what the price is but it might be worth giving them a call.

Also ... Camera Lane have a one-week-old Canon 5D for sale second hand ... save yourself a few dollars. The guy bought it from another store, decided he did not like a little bit of dust on the sensor and went out and bought an Olympus E300 for himself ... its a strange world!

Like them all but #1 is a ripper Owen. Can't wait to get my hands on my 12-24
