Nice work, Scott. Give it another shot in about ten days, as the full moon approaches, and then see what you can do.

The moon is quite bright, and as you can see, there's little need for a tripod for this type of shot. 400mm, VR, f/8 (right in the sweet spot for the lens) and 1/400th and you're there.
Holding the camera and lens correctly is another part of the key for this too.
And never, ever, "press" the shutter relase. Always squeeze it very gently.
As we were leaving Thanh's yesterday we noticed that it was out and looking quite interesting; I suggested some settings to leigh but he wasn't interested, and we didn't have the 80-400 with us.
Stay tuned, we may do another full moon night shoot early next year (who's interested in that?).
We certainly had a lot of fun at this year's full moon event, including some evidence that the full moon does, indeed, bring out some rather strange people.
