My 50mm 1.4 Arrived in the mail today.. crap crap crap weather conditions so decided to grab a snapshot inside the house... luckily my camera hating dog was sitting right infront of me and proceeded to yawn as i looked over my new object of infection

so i grabbed the a shot... typically looks like he's going "Oh No... Not Again!!"

Hi Tim,
nice pooch photo. Having two dogs, they know how your four legged friend feels
I have the same lens. I have found that with the dogs, I need to be careful not to open the lens too wide. Then you have the eyes in focus, but the nose OOF. Not sure if this is what happened here or just the movement of the yawn.
Have fun with the lens and don't forget to take him for a walk. When they are tired, they don't mind the camera so much
Cheers,
radar

Movement mostly.. had it at 2.2 ... bit wide.. but its nice playing with a lens under 2.8 hehehe shutter speed was at 1/100
Thanks for the replies.. and walks? bloody thing is a bundle of energy... he goes for runs 4 times a day.. half hour to 3/4 of a hr each time... once in the morning, three times in the arvo...
Time to go play with the lens some more!!

Nice shot tim. Good looking Jack too!

Gee I'd like one of those lenses. What's the damage for such a beast and secondly do you think it's worth the difference to get the 1.4 instead of 1.5? Hell you bought the 1.4 so you've answered my question. I ask because when I get my D200

I will probably have a couple of hundred to spend on a 50mm.
cheers

Congrats on the 50 1.4, the second portrait is a good one of the dog..
That is a great lens , I have the 50 1.8 and on the d70 it feels as though you have point and shoot cause of how light it is. Is the 1.4 the same??
Dont complain about the rain though cause we all need the water, it will be sunny soon enough.

Matt the 1.4 does make the D70 feel like a bit of a point and shooter.. very comfy and easy to use.. look forward to being able to use it properly!

very nice shot and soft looking, you focus is right no probs but this lens is sure realy sharp over 2.8,i have used one it was 50mm 1.8 non d version and it gets soft at 1.8 but at 2.8 and above its realy sharp over f8. below 2.8 must be soft.but indore avalibale light may not let you do f8 without flash.congrats for new lens.
