Well guys I said I found this place when I went to the blue mountains and I'm sorry but my photos just don't do it justice. I'm not one to talk to myself much, but when I walked into this opening I said "wow!"

Anyhow, here are a couple of shots... like I said, they don't do the place justice. It was a dark place, so exposures were between 4 seconds and 20 seconds.

Owen - these are superb shots and convey, to me, exactly how you described the location - a dark place. But captured correctly

Terrific shots Owen they really convey a sense of place for me and a certain serenity.

Thanks very much guys. It was a very serene place and because it was hidden from the track, although I'm sure it has been visited by more than a few people it gave me the feeling like I was the first one to stumble across it.

The second one does it for me owen, but they're all good really. You've really got these waterfalls down pat, excellent work!

The second one is my favourite as well mate, thanks. They're not hard, you don't even have to meter correctly, anything from 4 - 20 seconds gives relatively the same result lol.

You've done an excellent job lighting these without throwing away the dark mystery of the location. All three are good, but #3 is my favourite

I think this shows how we all perceive things differently. While you saw it as not quite there for whatever reason, it appeals more to me because the foreground mossy rock anchors the shot giving balance to the waterfall texturally and in terms of light. Not to mention rule of thirds

What a magical spot, it's amazing how relaxing and calming locations like this are and the feeling of peace when there... You can feel your heartbeat slow down when the just sit and take it in...

#2 does it for me, strong foreground interest in the fern fronds but tempted to crop a smidge off the top, where the light starts to get stronger... Lovely image...

G'day Mudder. It's in a little place called Lillian's Glen, which is in Valley of the Waters in the Blue Mountains.

Thanks for the comments mate. I did actually merge detail from the same raw file but dialled in -3 exposure compensation... but you're right, the lighter area doesn't match the mood of the rest of the image.

G'day mate,

Didn't pick it as a merged image, I was only thinking of the stronger light coming in through the top... Just tempted to "lop the top off" to just above the mossy stuff in the background in teh middle, just above the water entrance... Try just moving the image in a browser window and losing the top 10mm or so... The bright foreground works well, maybe burn the rock itself a little maybe, but keep the fern fronds nice and bright?

Gotta say it again, it's a lovely image, I'm a sucker for waterfall stuff but it catches me...
