What Katy Did...

Okay... a bad play on words but it got your attention. :)

This is another shot from my recent swamp outing with BlacknStormy. It's a Katydid or Long-horned Grasshopper (Tettigoniidae family). Nasty looking mug on it when you’re this close. Again, I was struggling with the DOF so I realize this is something I have to work on for the future. For those that may be wondering, the apparent ‘halo’ around the near antenna was not caused by sharpening but rather by the rapid movement of it by the beastie itself. Also, the antenna tip was a lot closer to the lens than its base so there were focus concerns as well. I'm loving this macro stuff! (Thanks again Narelle for the use of the 105mm Micro.)

Your comments are, as always, welcome.

Too clever Leigh. So, now that you're here, how about a comment on the shot?

I think you need the rest of his antennae in the shot, but aside from that, it's a beautiful little shot.

Thanks Leigh - I agree about the antenna!

It's about time!!! LOL
Good shot - takes a little while to get used to the 105 - or at least I took a while :), but the shot came up a treat. Well done Simon !
I dropped the disc on your desk - next time you're out in the bush, you are going to look in trees and on the grass aren't you???

Great shot Manta, who would have thought that a bug could have personality? :D Bummer about the antennae not being all there (and one out of focus).... but I can't wait to see your shots once you've had some more quality time with the 105 lens.

Hi Kinetic and thanks for your comments. I think BlacknStormy has shown just how much expression and personality these critters can have and if I can emulate her work even in the smallest way then I'll be a happy camper. That's why I pinch her lens when I can and give it a good rub - hoping the macro genie will grant me some wishes!

Haven't seen any of your images for a while, except for that 'interesting' water pitcher  so don't keep us waiting too long!

Be a shame to have eyes that big and not be able to use them..
