I've not yet attempted storms but was bummed tonight I didn't have my camera with me!
You've done well :) I like the last one in this series the most. :)

Great shots Alpha,

Next time shoot in a grave yard, it would look spectacular with the dark cross's everywhere.

Also, if you happen to get hit by one of those bolts you haven't got far to travel

Mic.

Agree the last one in the series is great.

Thanks everyone, this is only my second attempt at lightning photography, but I think I learnt a lot in singapore, and got a well sheltered spot, but without glass between my and the lightning... I was actually watching Harry Potter and my wife told me to go out and take photos, (so I missed the end) but she could tell I was keen to get some shots off...

I agree the last one is great... I had a few close calls where just after the shutter closed or just before it opened a huge fork came down... I wish the D70 had an auto mode, 10 second exposures 0.5 seconds apart... (Like autofire on a console controller) :)

.....remote control?

I know.. Katie said I'm allowed to get one, I'm also getting a tripod for Xmas, just have to pick the right one :)
The remote would be super valuable.. or like a 10metre shutter release cable.. that would work too..

I'd love a decent tripod...but my xmas stocking is going to be filled with a 70-200 lens.... 8) 8) BTW the remote works a treat - its a must.

Well a 70-200 would be nice too... but we can't have it all at once can we... there is always something else to lust over...

Oh BTW I find this guy out watching the storm as well, was way to dark to focus cleanly on the little blighter...

Glad you got to enjoy the lightning show Craig. It was right on top of us - gusting winds, hail and all. Heck, we even got hit directly and it tripped our circuit breaker (puzzled at first why other houses in our street still had electricity). Need to shop for a UPS for my aquarium methinks.

Craig - excellent shots - I tried for the same storm but zilch.

With the spider shot, I have a small LED torch from DSE that I use to illuminate small objects such as this for more accurate focussing

You have given me an idea for the next storm. I will just set the interval timer on the D2 and let it do its thang - and I will sit back and watch a movie 8)

Hi Steve,
I actually had Katie with the torch lighting up the spider, but he started getting agro, so she went back inside.

So you can put the D2 on autofire ?? If so that is awesome! Wack a big CF card in and change it every 30 minutes or something :)

Can you make the D70 autofire when it's connected to a computer?

Maybe hack into a ML-L3 and add an adjustable timer circuit

I tried to get some shots last night too, but was too late in getting to a vantage point that wasn't very good anyway. Nonetheless, I've posted what I got below. They don't warrant a separate post, so I hope the original poster doesn't mind if I put them here ...

Lessons learnt, find a high point that isn't floodlit or a low point that is expansive, keep shooting after the storm has passed, protect the camera (and yourself), don't use the back seat of the car as a "stable" platform, be prepared.

Awesome shots. I tried to get some but there are too many buildings in the way in Chatswood!! They look great.
