Scott - welcome!
I'm going to be brutally honest here.
The first shot (to me) is very soft and doesn't define the galahs well enough, perhaps have a play around with the curves of this and perhaps saturation. I also think the birds are too far placed to the right, the eyes don't have anywhere to lead to with this shot. Let's see what you can do with it.

The 2nd shot..hmm..it's a pelican in my opinion (and it's just that) there's not enough bird and too much background...the whites also look a little over exposed.

Don't feel rejected or useless, photography is a huge learning process, no one is perfect, that's right no one...continue to shoot and post here and let's see some more of your work! Thanks for posting :)

think the first shot was taken thru leaves and stuff.
The out of focus stuff gives the overall expression that the shot is soft.
I would try also to watch the background because it doesnt help the birds to stand out.

with this shot you probably need more eye contact.

the second shot has a fair amount of overexposure on the pelican.

White birds can be tricky to photgraph in bright light.

practice will make perfect.

have a look at the birds forum on naturescapes.net

you will find some fabulous bird shots posted there.

I find it very helpful to see what can be achieved because there are some serious amateur bird photogs posting, as well as professionals.
