This little wren really tried my patience as he would not let me get to close at all so had do a tight crop. Still learning thewhole photo taking/PP process so any tips will be appreciated.

I love the wave pic. Great capture, perfect timing.

G'day Doug,
Looks like the lighting was quite harsh (during the middle of the day?) judging by the shadows etc. Couldn't get EXIF so not sure.

If you want to try to bring out some shadow detail (assuming you use PS or PSP or something similar) you could try adding a layer of middle grey, then dodging on that grey layer to bring up some shadow detail. You can dodge the original layer but that's difficult to undo.

I'd also be tempted to either gaussian blur the background by a pixel or two to blur out the noise, the noise may be due to the small crop.

Good background too, seperates the subject well...

The link to the wave shot has disappeared. Looks like the rest of you missed out.

Nice shots, the first one seems a little blurry and there's some noise as mentioned, what ISO were you shooting at and how far away were the birds? Good shots though, birds are notoriously hard to capture :)

Thanks guys, the ISO was 200, midday and the bird was quite far away. It is a very tight crop, the first tighter than the second. Was actually chasing an olive backed sun bird at the time, who absolutely refused to cooperate when this little fella started making some noise. This wren only gets to about 12cm fully grown and most of that is tail. Thanks for the PP tips thats just what I needed.
BlinkBlink, you must have been quick if you saw the wave shot as I originally stuffed up the post and only had the hyper link to my pixpot gallery (very small at the moment.). Here is the link to the original posting of that shot
