Richards pipit. 80-400 @400 handheld

weather has been lousy lately around here whenever I get some to go out taking pix.
Got this today between rain showers.
Actually went out after finches but didnt even see one. The wind and the rain keeps them away.
I had not seen one of these before. apparently they spend a lot of time on the ground and you can kinda see why they are hard to see.

unfortunately I couldnt get close and this is fairly heavily cropped. When I see something new I try to get some sort of shot so that I can look it up.
Wasn't going to post it, but I have nothing else to post about now.

Not normally a big fan of small bird shots, but this one has been done really nicely. Is this with the Nikkor 80-400 VR? Great bokeh too.

yes taro, this was taken with the 80-400vr

I quite like taking photos of birds, makes a change from working on computers.

I only took this for id at the time but it kinda grows on me so I posted it.

Besides, it was the only shot I took before it rained!!

Who said Nikkor 80-400VR couldn't help the bird stalker?

the 80-400 works ok. The SB800 gave it a little catch light also.
(thanks Birdy)
the drawbacks I have mentioned before. Slow AF speed being the worst. Makes it not that easy for flight shots although they can be gotten if you can see the target flying straight for enought time to lock up.

Is ok if they hold still though!!
