Had a great trip yesterday to a local mountain rainforest region (Lamington Plateau for those who may have been there). A friend of mine had arranged a loan of the awesome 200-400VR and here's one of my shots using that amazing hunk of glass.

Thanks Steve. It's certainly worth lugging it around, as long as you don't have too far to walk...

Simon this is a nice looking bird, i am amazed how these birds stay still long enough to get shots of but yeh sure there is a lot to learn on this side of things as using the flash while birding. But nice pcture well framed as well.
Cheers

It was a bit a job to snap the shots while they were flitting around - they don't like to stay still for very long!
EXIF on this one, for those that are interested: 1/160@f11, ISO 200, SB800 on TTL-BL. This was shot at 400mm

What a beauty!

A nice lens to have in a rainforest environment. Great place for birds. Last time I was there I got eaten alive by the leeches. Any chance your friend can arrange a loan at Christmas?!

Great job!

Thanks Max, Kevin and Nicole.
I'll be twisting Mike's arm to see if he can wangle this baby again 'cos I certainly couldn't justify the expense at my level of expertise. Kipper and avkomp on the other hand....

Simon - that is one beautiful bird. If you are using CS it might be nice to see what happens if you use the highlight/shadow to see if the black(!) feathers would show more definition.
BTW did you use the VR

So many toys, not enough money
Been a few times where I could of done with the luxury of a VR lens in some of the low light situations I've been shooting in.

Lovely shot Manta

The contrast between the yellow and black has been captured really well. How big is this bird in "real life"?

Thanks K - pleased you like it. The Regents are smaller than the Satins and are very cute. This should put it into perspective:

Yes it does look like that Trevor but it certainly wasn't a 'deposit' of any kind.
Glad you liked the shot.

Nice subject, and quite tame by the looks of it. Lucky you. Good use of the lens and vivid capture. Thanks for sharing them

Thanks Willy - they are certainly very photogenic though the sheen on their feathers does tend to throw the sharpness a bit.

Thanks for the Comparison shot Manta. You were very fortunate to be able to get up close and personal with your subject.

It's not hard when they can't resist a nice feed. (Sometimes it was my finger they were chewing on!)

Great shot. Animal portraits are one of my favourite subjects, when done right, like this one.
As I said in PMs, must get up there again myself one day

Thanks Craig. This is one of about 250 shots for the day. I think I'll have to take a week off work to go through them.
