Thanks for the positive comments.

Although I would love a dedicated Nikkor macro I still get some nice results from the Tamron. :D

Nicest macros I've seen in a while - a pleasant change from the usual "nature study" look. Well done!

Simon, Kevin, Chris and Digitor,

Thanks for the great comments.

And I will definately take you up on the offer Kevin, though I fear that once I try it the credit card may take a hammering

Thanks Shane, Drifter.

The tubes allow you to focus much closer to an object so that when used in conjunction with a macro lens the image size is further enhanced. Don't know the technical terms but it is probably moving the focal plane of the lens. :D

extension tubes info

Postby rookie2 on Mon Oct 31, 2005 10:22 pm

Paul (nikonuser) provided this info earlier re extension tubes (i've just tried them for first time..see earlier thread titled Long legged fly)

Extension tubes.....

To move the lens away from the image plane...

This reduces the minimum focal distance of the lens.... which in turn increases the maximum magnification available.

PROS: No glass in the tube = no loss in quality

CONS: You loose light
CONS: You loose the ability to focus to infinity.

There are probably more but that's the general useage I think

cheers R2
