I entered these in the local creative photography group's second monthly online competition. Much to my surprise, I won 1st and 2nd place (no prizes, but that doesn't bother me one bit)!

Image
Award: 1st Place
Comment: The red stands out well against the black to highlight the facial features.

Image
Award: 2nd Place
Comment: Good composition and use of available light to add mood.

The highlights are blown in the second image, but in some ways, I kind of like it that way. My face is a bit blurry too, especially where I was trying to stay still while hanging from a rusty pipe for 4 seconds. :p

Hey Rog,
great work.
I think the first shot is awesome, what did you use for lighting..?

Like them both. Is the guy in the middle of the second one a dentist? He must be one of your quad bros.

Thanks Marty. The first shot is a 109sec exposure that involved the use of a laser pointer.

You're right, I should do something about that, I think I will have to go through my shots and find one ... maybe tonight if I have time!

Does anyone find their eye drawn to the contour of the collarbone in the first shot? Or maybe it's just me, so to speak.

These are both interesting shots (a good thing), but in the second one I just can't help thinking your pissing on the wall (even though your hands are at your side  :D

Oh great - thanks a lot Stubbsy - now all I see is the guy on the right watching himself piss on the wall!

Both shots are rippers - nicely done :)

I love number 1 Rog - maybe a view of the future when we're all barcoded? And using a laser pointer...great idea, well executed.

And one in the corner hanging on becasue he is busting to go and the other jumping out of the way so he doesn't get pee all over him!!

Having just pulled apart the second picture, let me say I like the idea BUT number one gets my vote, really great shot, love the fact that it is really just two colours. Well done

The first one ihas a great "man v machine" feel to me.
Looks like you're going one-on-one with a checkout scanner!

Funny you should mention that, that photo's sibling is called "no barcode".

Both great shots rog, and completely different. Fine work. #1 is really striking.

Rog, love the first one. Out of interest wouldn't that be fairly damaging to your eyes pointing a laser pointer at them? :)

PostPosted: Tue Nov 01, 2005 9:28 am
by rog
Who said that? Come closer! :)

I expect it would be damaging if it were pointing directly into one's eyes for any length of time, but this was constantly moving, not unlike a laser at a nightclub (except they're more powerful and move faster).
