We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.
Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.
Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Seems like everyone is posting crested pigeons but this is the only bird shot I managed to get today.
Due to various reasons I havent been able to take any shots for about 6 weeks now and going into serious withdrawal symptoms so I managed a short walk to try for some shots.
It was smoky and nothing much was around but as I was walking home and it was getting dark I saw this pigeon and decided that I should get a shot so that I could ease the pain a little.

Aaahhh, one of my little mates. Nice shot Steve. The smokey atmosphere hasn't helped but you've pulled off a really good capture. Interesting composition - I can never get mine to come out from behind the branches!!

This one was on a netball ring I had to pass on the way home and quite skittish so I was happy to get it.
Also, there was not enough light for this shot so the only illumination is from the flash.
I have a couple more of this one showing more colour but felt this was the nicest head shot.
I was actually out after some double barred finches which I saw the day before when I didnt have the camera. Saw them briefly today also but no shots available.
They may turn out to be hard to get too because they are sticking to thick cover, but I might get lucky. Only took me 8 months to get a real good shot of a male fairy wren!!

the 8 months is because initially I just thought I could just walk up to one and get the shots
you need to learn where and when they will be and put the time in.
The day I got the shots I was there for around 2 hours, hiding in long wet grass.
I was determined that I was going to do what it took to get the shots.

Have you posted that one here before Steve? I seem to remember it and the discussion you had with.. maybe Kipper?... about how you have to learn their habits and perching spots. Loved the shot then, love it now.

yes that was posted before, with a few others.
At the time there was probably a discussion about learning their habits and stuff like that.
I have always got my best shots when I sit and wait for the bird to go where I want it. The problem is that they usually dont.
