G'day all,
Been in the land of why-kick-a-moo-cow for a week now, just been able to log on, have posted just a few quick ones, not enough time to sort thru things I'm afraid at present. NZ is always spectacular, and Oct 05 is no exception.

Max Max Max - beautiful imagery here...you've captured these very well. NZ is high on our priority list to visit, perhaps for our honeymoon...now all I have to do is get married
Thanx for sharing.

Thanks Ants, I'm in Rotorua at present, hopefully will have time to sneak off for an hour to the redwoods forest just east of Rotorua, one of my favourite places in all the world!
Cheers.

Finding a girl first helps a whole lot...

Sorry Geoff, upon reading your post it seems that you HAVE a girl, just havn't tied the knot yet!
In any case, NZ is a great place for honeymoon, even sulphur infested Rotorua which is actually quite a pretty place.

Thanks muchly Glen, actually I drove up to the National Park parking lot, and the closer I got to the mountain, the more cloud there was, but in any case, it's a spectacular sight on the north island.

Great shots there, and nice to see some from the North Island for a change
You have been very lucky to see the top of Mt Egmont (or Mt Taranaki now) - the locals having a saying about not usually seeing the top, but I can't remember it off hand. The second shot is much more like the norm (even on a good day!).
Look forward to seeing more - would like to see more from Wellington, and how about some of Ruapehu, etc.? Enjoy Rotorua, it's a spot screaming for photo's!

Thanks Sheepie, yep the north island has a lot to offer, drove down the desert road yesterday but it was afternoon, looking into the sun etc and the mountains (Ruapehu and Tongariro) were not easy to photograph, although they are always spectacular. Taupo, as usual, was pristine.

Lovely stuff Max,
While I agree with the general concensus on the shots, I do think that number two is perhaps a little undeservedly maligned - it doesn't HAVE to be the mountain itself that has to be the motif .... it can also be passing cloud. And what I feel is particularly appealing about the cloud is the dimensionality that you have managed to reproduce. There is apparent depth (on my monitor, anyway) between the cliud and the surface of the mountain. This is just the sort of dimensionality that used to earn acclaim for old St. Ansel of Yosemite and I feel you deserve similar acclaim with this sequence.
Cheers,

Serious thanks Sheet, I do agree that a cloud or similar can give a little something that otherwise a scene may lack. For some strange reason I really like stopping the vehicle and aligning a curvaceous road, a road sign or two and a snow capped mountain, with or without clouds. Parking the car safely is the major issue here; sometimes a panorama is begging to be photographed, the light is perfect, maybe it's a tree or animal or decrepid old farmhouse, but there's literally nowhere to stop the car!! Oh well, that's life.
Thanks again,
Max

You're right, I'm too scared to clean the CCD without seeing it first done by someone who knows what they're doing!

Great Work Max thy are powerful images with depth, I don't see that many mountains with clouds intersectring in the manner that they do in your images. I also like the dark tone of the images makes them look more painterly in my understanding of the term.

Sensational Max!
IMHO I would consider a ps correction 3 & 4. Hope I'm not being too bold.
Well done

Thanks Wendell, Big Pix, Simon, Mic and Ghost, and yes, I think you're right, most of my images need a tad more photoshopping, or a lot more, depending on your view...Max
