Well it's finally arrived. The item that I've been mulling over whether or not to buy for the past 5 months has finally reached my hands. I must say I'm :D :D :D :D :D, to say the very least. It comes beautifully boxed and is pleasantly not as heavy or as big as I expected. Neither is the box that it came in, I was expecting some stupidly large box but it's very compact and almost like a musical instrument case.

Anyway I won't bore you with too much gloating.

Here is a photo of the item and the case.

Here is my first photo with the lens - straight from camera (click for larger).

Unfortunately there weren't any nicer subjects to shoot in my garden and at 6pm in poor light with a storm approaching. Will be test driving it over the next 10 days out and about at various places.

looks good........ makes my 30 year old 500mm mirror lens a bit tied...... you will find it easy to hand hold with practise....... it has only taken me 30 years.........

Yep, Big Pix, hand holding from what I've seen comes down to setting up the right focusing mode and a technique where you burst the focussing mechanism (using the function key). One of the guys on NSN does it with Canon gear and he has some brilliant results.

Huyhnie, there is a good chance I will be :)

I'll have to think about it and see what sort of luggage I need to have for it.
Personally I think it could still fit it in my compu trekker pro with nothing else in the bag. I have a small camera bag that I could use for the kit lens + camera.

Darryl, Congrats on the new lens.
looking forward to seeing the results over the coming weeks.

the right focusing mode and a technique where you burst the focussing mechanism (using the function key). One of the guys on NSN does it with Canon gear and he has some brilliant results.

wonder if you can give me some details of this technique?? or point me towards the info on nsn

finally wonder if you have done any tests with the beamer yet??

Hope you get more time to use yours than I've had over the past few months to use mine (..albeit the older version :) )

Can't wait to see some pics.

That's a really nice case it came in, shame there's no room for your camera or other gear! :(

Had a few outings with the big gun over the past few days but weather has been absolutely crap. Overcast but not bright overcast days so it's not even good for shooting perched birds below horizon level, water birds or scrub birds. I'm hoping the weather picks up tomorrow so I can do something useful with my time off. Once I get some decent pictures with the lens I'll start posting and do a review of the lens. When Fozzie is here in Melbourne, and we're down at WTP I'll get him to take a few photos with the kit and maybe even do a bit of a review (although writing isn't my thing).

Hope you enjoy your pound of BEEF

I think it's about time you updated your carpet though

Put it in your hand & feel proud young Jedi Knight.

Now give us some kick arse shots or we will come around and club you with it
