Hey all, was just looking through some of the pics I'd taken at my visit to Taronga Zoo and found that some of the gorilla pics looked pretty good (in my opinion)... Note, however, that I'd taken these pics shortly after buying my camera, and before knowing much about shutter speed, aperature, ISO, etc. so I think most were taken in Portrait mode with my 70-300G lens.

Though the technical stuff might be a little out of whack because of the Portrait Mode, I think some of these came out nicely. Oh, and all these images are straight from the camera, no PP or cropping or anything. Let me know what you think, I plan on heading back there again and shooting RAW in Manual. (I like the last one, personally).

I think these pics are ok for a first newbie to the camera so good job. That lens is ok for what it is so keep learning and playing and enjoy it.

Killakoala -> Funny thing is I'm pretty sure it's a female gorilla, too! Maybe a relative of your boss?

BBJ -> Yeah, I've been trying to play with my D70 as much as I can... before buying this, the only cameras I'd used were point-and-shoot cameras (last was a 4MP Sony Cybershot). I bought the D70 as I'd wanted to learn more about the wonderful world of photog... Plus my job sent me here to Oz, and I figured what better time to give it a go?

It's too bad I didn't study up a little more before the Taronga trip, but the second time around I think I'll have better results.

The Monkey exhibit at Toronga's good, you could spend a fair bit of time there watching their antics.

If these are your first goes with the D70 then you faired better than I did when I first got mine

Like the first one the most as it has good eye detail which is tricky to get on heavily browed animals such as primates, nice and sharp too. Also try portrait orientation for some shots as it will frame your subject better sometimes, especially with upright primates.
