Cute and cuddly but don't get near the claws

Here's another shot from my "frog expedition" last night. No frogs but some other items of interest. Kit lens at 70mm, 1/1.6sec @ f4.5, ISO800, handheld. SB800 on i-TTL. He was about 25m up the tree so I had to crop this one a bit.

Comments welcomed and appreciated.

Ah, much cuter than Mr Toady. How on earth did you manage to spot him/her in the middle of the night?

Easy - he initially mistook me for a tree and almost ran up my leg!
Scared the bejeezus out of me when he came galloping towards me out of the underbrush. I don't think he enjoyed the experience much either as he quickly took stock of the situation and shot up the nearest gum.

After I took a few shots and moved on he started with that devilish mating call they have at this time of year so I'm pleased I'd spotted him first and knew what was making the noise. Otherwise I might have been hightailing back to the car in rapid style wondering what sort of were-animal was on the loose. It was pretty dark and spooky out there by myself but I suppose I'll have to get used to that if I'm going to pursue this line of photography.

Hi Genista - ordinarily they can be very hard to spot but, as I said in my previous post, this guy found me rather than the other way around!

Just down the road from my home John - a small patch of bushland between Alexandra Hills and Ormiston.

Congrats on actually getting the shot Simon - must have nearly s''t your pants with a male koala coming at you :)

Seriously - nice photo. It's always a buzz to find a koala anywhere :), and to get a shot !!! Lucky you (I'm jealous - have a series of shit photos of koalas). And the mating call is something to be heard (Damian does a pretty good immitation ... of the call that is).

I'm assuming a little photoshop with the eyes to deal with eyeshine ? One of the best ways to find them is using a torch and looking for eyeshine in the trees..... like looking at orange saucers in the trees.

Or you can always pay Simon to come out and act as human bait :)

Well done Manta :)

Thanks Narelle. I did have to replace the eyes on this fella as the actual ones were like IPF spotlights looking back at me!
