Four of these and a couple of magpies have taken up residence around the units

Wondering what they are as I have no great knowledge in this area. I'm guessing that they are common though.

200mm, 1/500 sec, f6.3, iso 200, exp comp +1.7ev (must remember to spot meter occassionaly)

It's a juvenile magpie, which fits perfectly with your observations (identification courtesy of my wife).

Yep, it's a juvenile magpie. The older they get the darker the feathers become, and the soft greyish 'down' feathers will fall out.

Pretty soon it will be attacking you and trying to steal your hair.

Have fun now....

Yep juvy Magpie.

Adult Males have Black and White Plumage.
Adult Females have Black and White Plumage with Grey Mottled Breasts/Bellies.

Juvenilles have Brown/Grey and White Plumage, with Grey Mottled Breasts/Bellies iirc.

Thanks for that info, Chaun, and your wife (of course).

They're inquisitive little devils. I had the front door open the other morning and two of them were wandering in but took off when they saw me. :)

Cheers, John

Depending on how close you want to get, they are easily coaxed into taking food right out of your hand. Be ready for an accidental peck though, and they can get pretty demanding but I feed a few at work. Oh yeah be careful what you feed them as well - you don't want to kill them
